John II Casimir, Dwudukat 1665 HDL, Toruń – very rare
Obverse:
A bust of John II Casimir Vasa in right-facing profile, wearing a crown and armor covered by a cloak. The Order of the Golden Fleece on his chest.
In the rim, an inscription divided at the top by a crown: IOAN CAS D G R POL & SVE M D L R P
Reverse:
An angel holding an oval shield bearing the coat of arms of Toruń. On either side of the shield are the dates 16–65 and the initials HD–L (Hansa Dawid Lauer—mint master and wardain of the Toruń mint from 1649 to 1668).
On the edge: MONETA AVREA CIVIT THORVNENSIS
Condition: 2/2–
Slightly bent, but well struck and very nicely preserved. Good detail. A very rare coin that is difficult to find on the collectors’ market. An attractive piece to complete a collection.
