"The transformations to which his art was subjected are perhaps most fully illustrated by his still lifes: from freely and spontaneously painted compositions of fruitful fruits to pictorial cycles (e.g., with a saint, with a shell) that testify to an almost mathematical speculation in the search for coloristic juxtapositions" (J. Polakówna, "Polish Painting. Between the Wars 1914-1939", Warsaw 1982, p. 378).
