"Bed Guards" is a painting belonging to the guardian series dedicated to exploring the elusive power of care. Animals protecting people, an army protecting the sleep of a nation or guards watching over those who can't take care of themselves. In the featured painting, a legless dog and a massive guard symbolically protect the bed.
BIOGRAM:
Alina Sokolova (*1995, Uzhhorod, Ukraine) studied visual arts in Uzhhorod/UA, sculpture and installation at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava/SK and photography as a guest student at HFBK in Hamburg/DE. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna/AT in 2021.
Her artistic practice can be described as an intricate exploration of movement. She is particularly interested in the repetitive gestures of contemporary work, the notion of care and wear, and the mechanization of our everyday life. She explores movements that have become common property and are a testament to their times and the ever-changing social climate. Issues of animal-human coexistence and care, leisure, productivity, consumption and the phenomena of mass choreography in the age of digital media are present in her paintings.
In 2020 she was nominated for the Pinchuk Art Center Art Prize, Kyiv, UA. Her works have been shown in various group exhibitions in Vienna, AT and throughout Europe, such as the Museum of Western and Oriental Art, Odessa, UA and the Museum of Art, Zilina/SK, among others.
