Biography
Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw from 1965-71 with Eugeniusz Geppert, Alfons Mazurkiewicz and Czeslaw Zdanowicz. Since 1994 he was a full professor at his alma mater. The artist has received numerous awards and honors. His work was presented at nearly seventy solo exhibitions in Poland and abroad. In 1995, he received the Golden Palette award at the 27th International Painting Festival in Cagnes-sur-Mer. Klimczak-Dobrzaniecki was a Wroclaw representative of the same generation of post-conceptual painters to which Tomasz Ciecierski and Włodzimierz Jan Zakrzewski belong in the Warsaw milieu. His painterly formation, stemming from his training with colorist Eugeniusz Geppert, was supported by literary erudition, and a propensity for creating a vocabulary of painterly symbols. In his work of the 1990s and in the decades that followed, the artist became a master of vibrant, orangish reds and lustrous cobalts. Shown in coloristic fashion, the objectivity of his paintings is laced with a poetic sense of humor and a sense of the grotesque.
