acrylic, acrylic ink, canvas, 80 x 100 cm, signed and described on the back: '"Meanders" | 2026 | Barbara Skowronek'.
Barbara Skowronek (b. 1993) is a self-taught artist who has been involved with drawing from an early age. As a child, her main means of expression was pencil, with which she created portraits and hand studies. About seven years ago, she developed her technique during drawing and painting courses taught by Dagmara Kwiatek at the Stone Flower gallery. For the past few years, she has been concentrating on painting, working mainly in acrylic technique, although she is willing to reach for oil paints and experiment with a variety of materials, such as dry and oil pastels and ink.
The artist consciously does not identify herself with one fixed style, treating her work as a free space of exploration. For her, each painting is a separate experience and a unique record of the process. She draws inspiration from her immediate surroundings and everyday observations - often it's fleeting frames, a specific mood, a play of light or emotions that are memorable for a long time.
Her work is largely based on intuition. Barbara Skowronek allows herself to follow what emerges as she paints, relinquishing full control over the end result. Although there are moments of conscious planning of composition or color in her work, there remains just as much room for chance and surprise. She treats the creative process as a form of dialogue with matter and her own feelings, so that the final work often becomes a discovery for her, and not just the realization of a preconceived plan.
