Jacek SIENICKI (1928-2000), Skull, 1989

A characteristic feature in the work of Jacek Sienicki is the repeated development of a single theme. The series of canvases, returning to mundane objects that bothered the artist, such as plants (ficus), dishes (pots), pieces of meat, skulls or the interior of the studio, are probably a search for the right form and color, as Sienicki's painting was strongly associated with the trend of colorism. Jacek Sienicki graduated from the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in the studio of one of the Capists, who was also his long-time mentor - Artur Nacht-Samborski. The artist himself recalls: "One of my colleagues called my work portraying objects. I portray the interiors of the studio and I portray myself, I portray flowers, all those things that I paint, in a very close relationship with nature [...]. Of course, I also hope that I am primarily portraying myself. I give a stigma to the painting, a stigma stemming from me. From my entire life story, my illnesses, experiences, joys and sorrows."
