Born in Cracow, Poland. In 1940 he began his studies at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Cracow. Member of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences since 1944. Member of the Group of Young Visual Artists and the Cracow Group. From 1976-1992 professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow.
Painter, draughtsman, stage designer, creator of figural compositions, still lifes, nudes, landscapes and sacred paintings, in which he combines modern elements with influences of Byzantine art (Double Portrait, Toilet, Fantastic Still Life); His unique style is characterized by the use of a flat arrangement of color patches surrounded by a clean contour line and a synthesizing vision of everyday life; the iconic nature of his sacred paintings lies in the evocation of the mysticism of Ruthenian or Byzantine icons and geometric divisions that separate the center and side of the composition. He is the author of numerous polychrome paintings in churches (including the Holy Spirit Church in Nowe Tychy, the church in Wesoła near Warsaw, the church in Lourdes, France) and iconostasis (e.g., the Dormition of the Mother of God Church in Cracow; Cracow-Azory, 1978, the Holy Spirit Church in Tychy), the iconostasis of the Orthodox Church in Cracow (1972). In addition, works in numerous museum collections in Poland and in private collections (USA, Canada, France, Germany).
