A piece with a very attractive appearance, following expert conservation work.
The July 1866 issue of 5-gulden banknotes, directly linked to the Austro-Prussian War then underway, was the penultimate issue of the Austrian Empire before the formation of Austria-Hungary.
These banknotes were part of the monetary system of Galicia and Lodomeria, and for this reason alone they deserve special attention from collectors of banknotes from the period of the Partitions.
Importantly, the reverse side features not only the Polish inscription “five Rhine zlotys,” but also a depiction of the coat of arms of Galicia and Lodomeria.
