The overall structure in three tiers, with an upwardly tapering base in giallo rosso marble. Above this is a cloud bank zone, set with engraved mother-of-pearl clouds with winged angel heads and two small angels carved in full relief on the sides. The statue of the Madonna rising above it has another carved octagonal base with profiles. The Madonna, moving only slightly in a S-shape, holds the child in the crook of her left arm over a raised cloak, which is pulled up in fine, partly angularly carved folds to the seated figure of the child. The hands of the mother and child touch as they hand over a piece of fruit, the child's right hand resting on the mother's breast. The mother makes eye contact with the child. Both figures wear a high, openwork carved crown with carved flowers.
The figure is based on the large-scale marble model in the pilgrimage church Santuario della Santisssima Annunziata in Trapani, attributed to Nino Pisano (1349-1368). Repeats of this miraculous devotional image were created, particularly in the 17th century. In the Santuario, the large figure is flanked by two angelic figures carrying candlesticks. The carved, winged putti, mother-of-pearl clouds and the base are independent designs from the Baroque period of Trapani art. In impeccable condition, with accompanying leather-covered case with hinged mechanism and locking hook. A.R. (14100825) (11)

Three-part design with a tapered base in Giallo Rosso marble. The design is a copy after the large-format marble sculpture attributed to Nino Pisano (1349-1368) and held at the Basilica-Sanctuary of Maria Santissima Annunziata, a pilgrimage church in Trapani. The miracle-performing original Madonna of Trapani was especially copied during the 17th century. The Madonna in the Sanctuary is flanked by two standing angels holding candelabras. In the statuette on offer for sale here the winged putti, tortoiseshell clouds and the base are original Baroque designs in the artistic style of Trapani. In excellent condition with matching, leather-lined hinged box with hook closure.
