Portrayed persons captured in full figure, framed against a background of decorations. Woman in showy dress with fan in hand, man in uniform and with saber at his side. On the lower margin of the backing print: "A. Szubert in Krakow and Szczawnica". Photo pasted on original cardboard backing with gilt edges. On the back an advertising vignette of the establishment with the imprint: "A.Szubert Fotograf w Krakowie Ulica Krupnicza 7 i Szczawnica w Cursalonie." and handwritten inscription: "Krakau 1889". Minor local stains, otherwise good condition.
A. Szubert (1837-1919) - painter, photographer, studied at the Cracow Academy of Fine Arts (student of W. Łuszczkiewicz and W. Stattler), in Rome and Vienna. One of the first Tatra photographers. He photographed mainly the Tatra Mountains and Pieniny. He opened establishments in Oświęcim (1864), in Cursalon in Szczawnica (1865-1866) and in Cracow (1867-1882 at 17 Krupnicza Street) and again in Szczawnica (1882-1909). In 1876, the photographic establishment at 17 Krupnicza Street was awarded a medal of progress at a photographic exhibition in Brussels. From 1893-1913 the establishment was run by his son Awit, and from 1913-1914 by his wife Amalia. From the 1870s he also photographed works of art, mainly paintings.
