Portrayed in waist-length shot, looking straight ahead. Printed on the lower margin of the underlay: "S. Balicer". Photo pasted on original cardboard backing with red border. On the back an advertising vignette of the establishment printed: "Photographer Szymon Balicer in Cracow Grodzka Street No. 80 opposite St. Idzi's Church by the c.k. post office". Underglaze stained and slightly damaged, photo condition good.
S. Balicer (d. 1895) - portrait photographer, whose establishment was located at 79, 80-81 Grodzka Street and 16 Wesola and Kolejowa Streets (next to the military casino). The establishment existed from 1849 until about 1905, although after the owner's death in 1895 the business was run by a relative with the same name. He began by using the reverses of Brunck F.Sohne of Nuremberg and Huth Gebruder of Dresden, to later remain faithful to Viennese companies: K. Krziwanek, Kühle & Miksche, E. Türkel, L. Türkel, B. Wachtl.
