Dasha Skorubska-Kandinsky is a contemporary artist born in Kyiv in 1985, coming from a family with strong artistic roots. She is a descendant of the famous Wassily Kandinsky, one of the pioneers of abstractionism in Western art.
Her father, Anton S. Kandinsky, was a well-known post-Soviet pop art artist who gained fame in New York with his style called "Gemism." Dasha continues and enriches her father's style, while developing her own, which she refers to as academism.
Dasha Skorubska-Kandinsky believes that "a work of art should be syncretic," and therefore in her works she combines an academic basis with mystical expressionism, nudity and symbolic mythology. In her art, the "raw and hot body" of paint meets the "cold heart" of expensive stones, creating works full of both physicality and spirituality
Her works are in private collections around the world, as well as in the collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Ukraine (Kyiv) and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Russia (USA).
