Kacper Bożek was born in 1974 in Kraków. He graduated from the Antoni Kenar High School of Fine Arts in Zakopane and the Department of Graphic Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. He completed his thesis under the supervision of Prof. Stanisław Wejman in the copperplate engraving and lithography studio. He works in printmaking and drawing. He employs printmaking techniques such as etching, aquatint, and mezzotint. A common feature of his prints is the creation of narratives—multi-layered stories without clear boundaries between beginning and end—that encourage viewers to engage in their own search for meaning and significance. The artist is sometimes inspired by the Middle Ages. His works are full of knights, dragons, and beasts. He is also fascinated by vampires, which is why his works convey a sense of unease and fear, but also the macabre and the grotesque. Each of his works is meticulously refined and characterized by almost anatomical precision.
Bożek also creates ex-libris (miniature works of art whose style and range of forms draw on full-format prints). His extraordinary talent and unique style have been recognized on numerous occasions. The artist is the recipient of, among others, such awards as: the prestigious Leonardo Sciascia Prize Amateur d’Estampes in Milan in 2012, the Special Award in the ZPAP “Print of the Month” competition in 2008, Print of the Year and the Grand Prix for “Milites Templi” in 2002, and the City of Kraków Creative Fellowship in 2003. In November 2013, he earned his Ph.D. for a series of prints dedicated to *The Manuscript Found in Saragossa* and the life of Jan Potocki. His works are included in the collections of the Artoteka at the University of Zielona Góra Library and the Lubusz Region Museum in Zielona Góra.
