Marc Chagall was one of the most outstanding artists of the 20th century: a painter, printmaker, illustrator, and creator of monumental works. He was born in 1887 in Lozno near Vitebsk, and from 1910 onward he was associated with Paris and the avant-garde circle. His work combined Jewish tradition, memories of his hometown of Vitebsk, Symbolism, Cubism, and poetic imagination. Lithography holds a special place in his body of work, a medium he developed, among other things, in collaboration with the Parisian Atelier Mourlot.
