Sermon of St. John the Baptist by Rembrandt.
Etching, ribbed paper. 1808. Signature within the composition: "Rembrandt fc. 1656"; board dimensions: 51.5 x 65 cm;
This is one of Norblin's last and greatest graphic works, created after his return to Paris, where he continued his work inspired by the works of Rembrandt. It depicts a monumental sermon by John the Baptist - a Bethlehem scene by a river, with crowds of listeners embracing Jews, mothers with children, people on horses, a column with a statue, a bridge and fortifications in the background. Graphic cut to the plate imprint. Good condition; lettered by P. Smolik, 1934, p. 47, item 64.
