Stanislaw Chlebowski was one of the Polish painters of the nineteenth century, known primarily for his Orientalist, historical paintings. Born in 1835, he studied in St. Petersburg and then lived in Istanbul for twelve years as a court painter to the Sultan. His works are today in museums in Poland, Turkey, France, Austria and Russia.
