Biography
Tomasz Jura was a Polish poster artist, illustrator and cartoonist. He graduated from the Department of Propaganda Graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. He received his diploma with honors in 1968, in the Graphic Design Studio of Prof. Tadeusz Grabowski. After graduation, he worked at his alma mater as an assistant in the Poster Studio. Then he fulfilled himself as the head of the studios: Preliminary Graphic Design, Photo Film Design, Photographic Design, Graphic Design, Illustration and Applied Drawing. From 1981 to 2005, he was head of the Department of Graphic Design. From 1982 to 1985, he served as dean. Jura has had more than 100 national and international solo exhibitions. He has been honored with many awards, including the Gold Medal of the Polish Poster Biennale in Katowice, the Trepkowski Award, and the Silver Medal at the World Graphic Exhibition in Berlin. He was twice the winner of the "Silver Pin" award. He was the organizer of many exhibition initiatives, including the International Biennial of Student Graphic Design - AGRAFA, held in Katowice. Since the early 1970s, as an author of covers and illustrations, he cooperated with such magazines as "TY i JA", "Projekt", "Szpilki", "Ekran"" Perspektywy", "Panorama", "Yes and No", "Młody Medyk". He was a member of numerous creative associations, including the Katowice branch of the Association of Polish Artists and Designers and the Association of Polish Caricature Artists SPAK, as well as the Katowice branch of the Association of Photographers.
