2012 is a difficult vintage in Bordeaux. Difficult for farmers, winemakers and managers. Difficult choices had to be made at every stage of production. The best wines were created by those who could financially afford not to make easy decisions.
La Mission Haut-Brion is one of the estates that best navigated through the challenges and risks. They opted for a historically high proportion of merlot in the blends and limited the proportion of the main wine in the total production to 40%. These treatments yielded a wine that many believe is one of the best on the left side of the region in the 2012 vintage.
Concentrated and rich, showing distinctive notes of currants, cherries, berries, graphite pencil and earth and smoke, balancing nicely between juiciness and cool elegance. Very pleasant on the palate thanks to great energy. A successful composition.
62% merlot, 38% cabernet sauvignon.
