The Adventures of Sinbad the Sailor was first published in 1913 as a work for children and young adults. The title and content refers to the character Sinbad the Sailor from the Arabic Book of a Thousand and One Nights, but it is neither a translation nor an editing of Arabic stories, but an original literary work. The book lived to see an English translation under the title The Adventures of Sindbad the Seafarer. Boleslaw Lesmian is one of the most famous Polish writers and poets of the first half of the 20th century, considered the most original creator of the time. He was the author of a new type of ballad, and was also famous for his distinctive language - his works are full of neologisms, known as Lesmianisms. In his works he often referred to fantastic themes, to folk beliefs, drew on the traditions of the Baroque, Romanticism and Young Poland, and was inspired by Bergson and Nietzsche.
