"To arms" 1877
Printed and published by E. Winiarz, in Lviv 1877; author unknown.
Booklet, pages 27.
Usual signs of the passage of time, brochure clean, consistent.
In 1877, when the Russo-Turkish war began, in Constantinople and other cities appeared calls printed in Polish, and dedicated to the Poles scattered in exile, entitled To Fight (this information is evident from the contents of the booklet). The anti-proclamation put up for auction is titled identically, only with quotation marks. It is a response to attempts to mobilize Poles, and illuminates the background and significance of the ongoing conflict for Poland, which was under partition, emphasizing the total unjustifiability of Polish participation in the war.
