The first volume (consisting of the first two annuals) of the first independent Polish Scout magazine, founded by Aleksander Małkowski. Subsequent issues opened with an elaborate title vignette. M. Miszczuk described it as follows: “Here, against the [...] backdrop of Giewont, two Scouts—one of whom holds a banner bearing the inscription ‘Czuwaj’—gaze at a mounted hussar, a symbol of Polish military might. They will be his successors! The author of the vignette was probably Jerzy Grodyński” (Miszczuk I, p. 25). “The first issues, edited and largely authored by A. Małkowski, were excellent propaganda material […]. ‘Skaut’ explained what Scouting was in a very accessible way, often through storytelling, and featured articles showing how to form patrols and troops […]. Patriotic themes were a constant presence in ‘Skaut’” (“Lexicon of Scouting,” Warsaw, 1988, p. 426). The magazine was published from 1911 to 1921 (with a hiatus during World War I) and from 1923 to 1939.
