Chlanda was never one of the artists who created explicitly political or critical works. He did not engage in political movements, and his distanced and irony-filled perspective on the reality around him, both socio-political and that of the art world, however, was not without influence on his individual realizations. His drawings, sculptures and objects elude clear-cut categories. He made his debut in the mid-1970s as a draftsman. From the beginning, he explored the problem of process, combining his drawing series with forms such as performance, concert and documentation. A second distinctive feature of his art was the incorporation of various objects, such as pieces of fur, wooden blocks and slats, ropes, etc., within the works on paper. These procedures led him to create installations. One of the most important works of this type is considered "Epiphanies" at the 1980 Biennale of the Young in Paris. For him, drawing is a record of observations, insights. He combines his thoughts captured on a piece of paper with other forms of artistic expression, such as music.
