In 1900-1901, Michal Gorstkin-Wywiórski collaborated with Wojciech Kossak in painting the panorama "Battle of the Pyramids". Its creation was preceded by the artists' trip to Egypt, where they made a number of plein-air sketches of the battle area, as well as a number of studies and genre scenes with figures of fellahs and Bedouins. The painting presented at auction was probably created during this period.
