Wladyslaw Jarocki (Podhajczyki 1879 - 1965 Kraków) - Polish painter dealing mainly with Hutsul, Podhale and Tatra themes. President of the Society of Friends of Fine Arts in Cracow. Graduate of the C. K. V Gymnasium in Lviv. He studied at the Lviv Polytechnic Institute, later in 1902-1906 at the Cracow Academy of Fine Arts and in Paris. He was a pupil of Józef Mehoffer and Leon Wyczółkowski. From 1921 to 1939 he was a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow`. He painted landscapes, folk and religious rituals, figures in regional costumes. He also painted during his numerous travels (Hutsul region since 1904, Caucasus 1907, Podhale and Tatra Mountains since 1907, Baltic coast since 1922, Italy. Jarocki also created caricatures. He designed the sarcophagus of Jan Kasprowicz, his paintings are also in the church in Harenda. In 1928, two of his works - Self-Portrait on Skis and Portrait of Jerzy Zulawski in the Mountains - were entered in the Olympic Competition for Art and Literature at the Amsterdam Games, but neither was awarded an honorable mention. He lived permanently in Cracow, but was associated with the Tatra Mountains until the end of his life. In 1920 he married Jan Kasprowicz's elder daughter Anna, which resulted in frequent visits to the "Harenda" villa - Kasprowicz's home in Zakopane. A large part of the villa was owned by the Jarocki family, which is why most of his paintings are located there. Today in the villa "Harenda" is open a gallery of paintings by Wladyslaw Jarocki.
