Joseph Ulrich Danhauser ( March 14, 1780 in Vienna; † January 9, 1829 in Vienna) was a furniture manufacturer on the Wieden near Vienna during the Biedermeier period. After training as a sculptor at the Academy of Fine Arts, Joseph Ulrich Danhauser founded the "Etablissement for all objects of ameublements" in 1804, where he offered furniture, curtains, upholstery, carpets as well as bronze and glass articles. The Palais Czernin (occasionally also called Palais Czernin-Althan) in the Favoritenstrasse served him as a production facility, the majority of whose garden he sold as building land. In our own workshop, where more than 100 people were alreadyworking around 1808, furniture, lamps, pipe, rifle and billiard cue frames, embroidery frames, stove screens as well as pulpits and altars were made according to our own designs. The paste he developed, with which he was able to imitate bronze as a decoration for furniture and other furnishings, was very successful. In 1812, the Hofkammer granted him the exclusive privilege of producing them. Due to the great demand for his products, which offered a total solution for the design of living space, branches were set up in Graz and Budapest. In addition, customers could select the furnishings for their apartments or houses from catalogues.Prominent addresses equipped with his products were the Palais Archduke Albrecht (today's Albertina), the Weilburg in Baden, Laxenburg Palace near Vienna, the Geymüllerschlössel in Vienna and parts of Graz Castle. After the death of Josef Ulrich Danhauser, the factory was continued by Danhauser's widow, who went bankrupt in 1834. Then the factory was taken over by their son Franz, who went bankrupt in 1841. The premises of the factory were later used by theWiedner Hospital. Seating furniture made by Danhauser is shown in the permanent exhibition at the MAK Vienna. The MAK Library and Works on Paper Collection owns the furniture factory's entire legacy of drawings (around 2,500 sheets), which were digitized in 2008 and recorded in a database.
