Janina Muniak was born in 1935 in Warsaw. She graduated in painting from the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts. She first showed her works in a group exhibition at the Zachęta Gallery in 1961. In the same year, the artist began working as a graphic designer and illustrator, making illustrations for children's books, among other things. After arriving in Paris in 1963, she continued in this field, working for various graphic design agencies and magazines (for many years she worked with Art Presse, for example, and designed packaging, textiles or graphic elements for companies such as SNCF). She only returned to creating her own art in the early 1990s. Beginning in 1994, when she received a medal in the pastel category at the Autumn Salon of Fine Arts in Chapelle Saint-Jean, the artist has regularly exhibited her work in both group and solo exhibitions.
