Pawel (Waldemar) Pawlas (born 1944 in Katowice-Giszowiec, died 2000).
He was a painter, miner, athlete and musician. He graduated from a basic vocational school with a major in auto mechanics. For 10 years he worked as a miner in a mine in Katowice-Nikiszowiec. Since his youth, he was involved in various artistic and sports activities, being, among other things, the vice champion of Silesia in boxing. As a result of a tragic accident he witnessed, he decided to change his life and fully dedicated himself to painting.
He often created his paintings at night, by candlelight, locked in his room, which gave his work an unusual, expressive and emotional character. His paintings are characterized by deformation and expressive, pain-filled human faces. He painted mainly in oil, and his works have been exhibited in numerous galleries, including those in Ruda Śląska, Gliwice and Katowice.
His compositions are in the collection of the Silesian Museum in Katowice. For Pawlas, painting has become not only a form of artistic expression, but also an important therapeutic element.
From October 21, we invite you to our headquarters in Katowice for a pre-auction exhibition of works.
