Her father - an engineer - built railroads in Russia. Having lost her engineering fortune during the revolution, the family returned to Poland. She spent the years of the Nazi occupation alternately in Warsaw and in her husband Edward's hometown of Vidnica in the Miechowszczyzna region. She began her artistic path with studies at the Warsaw Municipal School of Decorative Arts, in the mural painting studio of Mieczyslaw Schultz, to complete them at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in the studio of Felicjan Kowarski. Decorative tendencies and a love of compositional purity in painting became the principle of her work, just as with her masters. These tendencies were confirmed over time not only by her own creative path, but also by her close contacts with the abstractionist Henryk Stażewski and Ewa Lunkiewicz, who was close to this trend of art. Since 1962, she increasingly dealt with artistic textiles , which was fostered by her active participation in the creation of the Warsaw Experimental Studio of ZPAP, where the beginnings of the successes of Polish artistic textiles (including Magdalena Abakanowicz) were born.
