August III of Saxony, Talar 1757 IDB, Dresden – beautiful and very rare
Obverse:
Bust in right-facing profile.
Inscription on the rim: D G FRID AUGUST REX POL D S I C M A & W
Reverse:
A crown. Below the crown, two shields bearing the coats of arms of Poland, Lithuania, and the House of Saxony. Palm branches on either side. Below the shields, a royal apple; below that, the initials IDB (Johann David Billert—Master of the Dresden Mint).
On the rim, an inscription divided at the top by a crown: SAC ROM IMP ARCHIM ET ELECTOR 1757
A variant with a royal apple beneath the heraldic shields (without the FR monogram)—very rare.
Condition: PCGS MS63
A beautifully struck and preserved coin. Deep, three-dimensional relief. Beautiful detail. Luster and mirror finish. Mint condition confirmed by a very high PCGS grade. This is the very piece that received the highest PCGS MS63 grade, and it is the only piece graded MS63. A rare variant. In this condition, the coin is extremely rare and virtually unavailable on the collector’s market. A beautiful piece to grace the finest collections.
