Bronze issue of Lysimachia in Thrace, dated to approximately 309–281 BC, struck during the reign of Lysimachus, one of the Diadochi of Alexander the Great and ruler of a vast kingdom encompassing Thrace, parts of Asia Minor, and Macedonia.
Lysimachia was founded by Lysimachus around 309 BC on the Thracian Chersonese and quickly developed into an important strategic and administrative center of the region. The city is attested in ancient sources, including Strabo and Diodorus Siculus, and its minting activity constitutes an important testimony to the functioning of the political and administrative structures of Lysimachus’ state during the early Hellenistic period.
