This beautiful, brightly colored canvas depicts Venice's most famous square from an elevated perspective, providing a wider frame for the composition. The horizontal line formed by the facades of San Marco and Palazzo Ducale in the background contrasts sharply with the vertical shape of the bell tower, while the Procuratie buildings flanking both sides of the square add depth to the perspective. A large stage where parties, celebrations, or simple moments of everyday life take place and where fellow citizens, nobles in disguise, plebeians, dogs, judges and street vendors coexist in a sweet aesthetic synthesis.
The painter's composition is characterized by a particular style that follows the tradition of the great Venetian masters, and adapts her urban landscapes to a modern style with impressionistic features and an abundance of quick colored brushstrokes.
