A unique piece of sheet paper of 3 pieces of banknotes from the archives of the printing house Thomas De La Rue of London which made a banknote of 20 zlotys on behalf of the Bank of Poland.
The banknote was not introduced into the collection probably because the cost of printing was too high andwas known so far only from specimens and proofs. Previously unknown from unfinished prints including a blank printing paper with the final version of the portrait multi-toned watermark (as on the fully completed banknote)
The intaglio technique was used for the first time, which included a portrait of Marynia Polaniecka according to a print by Piotr Stachiewicz.
Only one full sheet of printing paper has survived from the printing house archives. The offered piece is the only one preserved in such form (3 pieces).
UNIQUE !
In addition, included is an original heliogravure by the author depicting the Portrait of Maria (Marynia) Pławicka by P. Stachiewicz, which served as a model for the author of the design of the 20 zloty banknote issued on 02.01.1928, not introduced into circulation. The illustration comes from an album dedicated to the works of H. Sienkiewicz. It was made in heliogravure technique at the Meisenbach Riffarth & Co. factory.
Also included is a piece of Krakow Numismatics containing an article by Robert Jadrych treating the discovery of the mystery of the identity of the female image (previously unknown) on 10 and 20 zloty 1928 banknotes.
An exceptional and unique item.
