Michalina Krzyzanowska, née Piotruszewska - the wife and favorite model of Konrad Krzyzanowski - was a well-known and respected painter. Initially a pupil of Milosz Kotarbinski, in 1904-1909 she studied at the Warsaw School of Fine Arts under Krzyzanowski, who became her husband in 1906. She participated in annual plein-air painting workshops arranged by Krzyzanowski for students (Arkadia near Nieborow, Zwierzyniec near Zamosc, Istebna, Verki near Vilnius, Fin-land, Alexandria in Ukraine). In 1907 she traveled with her husband to Italy and Corsica, and in 1912 they were both in London and Paris, where Michalina attended the Académie Ranson, painting under Maurice Denis. She lived permanently in Warsaw. She spent the years of World War I in Volhynia, Polesia and Kiev. In 1918, she returned to Warsaw. In 1919-1921, together with her husband and students of the painting school he ran, she traveled to Plock, Kartuzy and Chmielno for plein-air studies.
