Painter, graphic artist, and sculptor
Anna Siek was born in 1976 in Kraków. She is a graduate of the High School of Fine Arts in Kraków and the Department of Graphic Arts at the Kankaanpää Art Institute in Finland, where she earned her diploma in 1999 in the lithography studio of Prof. Anna Alapuro. She continued her artistic education at the Department of Graphic Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, earning a diploma in Prof. Stanisław Wejman’s copperplate engraving studio.
Anna Siek’s body of work encompasses painting, watercolor, printmaking, and sculpture. The artist skillfully employs classical printmaking techniques, such as lithography, etching, aquatint, drypoint, linocut, and silkscreen, often combining them with watercolor, pastel, and her own technical innovations.
Her primary interests remain nature, the world surrounding us, seemingly ordinary phenomena, as well as personal experiences and emotions. A characteristic element of her work is the search for the right relationship between form and color. In the artist’s watercolors, free-flowing brushwork, luminous patches of color, and the natural lightness of the medium blend with the expertise gained from her demanding printmaking practice.
Anna Siek comes from a renowned artistic family in Kraków. Her father was Prof. Jan Siek—a highly regarded sculptor, creator of both monumental and intimate works, and a longtime professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. The family-run SiekArt studios in Siedlec near Kraków have for many years brought together artists working in sculpture, painting, printmaking, set design, and art conservation.
The studio is located in a historic house with a unique artistic heritage. This place was previously associated with the set designer and caricaturist Andrzej Stopka, and Józef Mehoffer used to visit its garden; inspired by the surroundings, he created his famous “Strange Garden.”
Anna Siek’s works have been presented at numerous solo and group exhibitions in Poland and abroad, including in Finland, Denmark, Belgium, Germany, Bulgaria, Egypt, and the United States. She has exhibited, among other places, in Turku, Helsinki, Pori, Tampere, Odense, Silkeborg, Kasterlee, Munich, Minneapolis, and Denver. In 2025, her exhibition “Hidden Places,” featuring oil paintings, watercolors, and prints inspired by her travels and plein air painting sessions, was held at the C.K. Norwid Cultural Center in Kraków.
Among the artist’s most recognizable print series are “Dog Tags,” “Woman,” “Water,” and “Doors.” Her works are found in private collections in Poland and abroad, including in Finland, Denmark, Norway, and the United Kingdom. Anna Siek lives and works in Siedlec near Kraków, where she runs her own printmaking and painting studio.
