The sculpture probably comes from an ethnic group of the kingdom of Cuba in Congo. The figure sits crossing his legs on a square platform (yiing). Ndop statues are idealized representations of nyimi, or kings of the kingdom of Cuba.
Conservation condition: good (signs of wear, darkened wax and a vertical crack on the axis through the length of the carved face).
