Sign. AD: H Alchimowiecz
Hiacynt Alchimowicz (1841-1897) is a painter Kazimierz
Alchimowicz (1840-1916). He was born in Dambrava into the family of Dominykas Alchimowicz, a landowner, and studied at the surveyors' school in Vilnius, where he is believed to have received the rudiments of art from Kanuta Rusecka. Like his brother Kazimieras, Hyacinth took part in the 1863 uprising. After the defeat of the uprising, Casimir was exiled to Siberia (where he spent six years), while Hyacinth emigrated to France and never returned to his homeland. Hyacinth Alchimavich settled in southern France, in the city of Perpignan, capital of the Languedoc-Roussillon region. He worked as a technical draughtsman for the Society of Railway Builders in Arcachon, Amel le Bene and Perpignan. In 1872, he began studying painting, first in Perpignan and later in Paris, where he painted domestic scenes, landscapes and portraits in watercolour and oil.
