Marek Firek (born 1958) in Cracow - Polish artist, sculptor and illustrator. Graduate of the Faculty of Architecture at the Cracow University of Technology (1986), Faculty of Industrial Forms at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow (1989) where he earned his doctorate (1998). He currently works at the Independent Department of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture at the Faculty of Architecture of the Cracow University of Technology. He lives and works in Cracow.
He is engaged in painting - mostly creating series of paintings, ceramics, drawing, making films, in addition to taking part in conferences, publishing in the press and the Internet. He describes himself as an artist - conformist. At the beginning of his artistic path he created representational art - prettism, since 2009 he has been creating conceptual abstraction. He often uses collage - adding concrete objects to his paintings - in his artistic practice. He also tries to include action elements and interactivity as a complement to painting values.
The area of his search also includes art theory, which he tries to actively develop and enrich. He is the creator of new artistic concepts, among others, the theory of choice or invention - related to invention in design and visual art. It involves inventing new directions in art, such as, for example, sell-out art, fashion art, idol art (generationlessness), folk art, artpolo, prettiness, commodification, and others. He believes that today there should be conjunctivism as opposed to alternative art, ariergardism in opposition to the avant-garde, while evolution should replace revolution. He attaches great importance to the object, assuming the absence of a subject in artistic reality. He treats both the artist and the artwork in the category of object.
Since 1995, he co-founded the Ładnie Group, with which, in addition to exhibition and activity, he co-edited the artzine "Słynne Pismo we Wtorek" (Famous Tuesday Magazine). Creator of innovative forms of art presentation in open space, among others at the Leaflet Gallery (turn of the century) and at the Tunnel Car Gallery (Krakow, 2001-2009). For more than a dozen years, every year at home and abroad, he promotes a particular color as the most fashionable of the season. The artist's works are in permanent and outdoor exhibitions in Poland and Japan, among others, as well as in private collections around the world. (bio after: Wikipedia.pl)
