Salvador Dalí —one of the most important figures of Surrealism—was born in 1904 in Figueres (Catalonia) and died there in 1989. An extraordinarily versatile artist: painter, printmaker, writer, set designer, and eccentric who gained worldwide fame thanks to his original personality and imagination. He became famous for his paintings full of dreamlike symbols, rendered with precision and hyperrealistic detail. Alongside his painting, he produced a rich body of graphic work—he illustrated, among other works, the Bible, Dante’s Divine Comedy, Goethe’s Faust, and Boccaccio’s Decameron. His works are now housed in the world’s most important museums, including MoMA in New York, the Reina Sofía in Madrid, and the Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres.
