Etching, cardboard, 34.5 x 31 cm; signed in pencil p.d.: "W.W.Breuer 19". Old underpainting of two margins. Good condition.
The artist was in the Polish territories during WW1 and made drawings and watercolors then. In 1919 he was in Lviv with his family where he created views and portraits. He also met Bruno Schulz of Drohobych, whose portrait he drew. This print is different in style from Breuer's other works. It was made the year, he met Schulz and is designed under his influence. In this etching, the main role is played by a beautiful elegant woman who is admired by two men who are moving away from her. This is reminiscent of Schulz's works, where the women are statuesque beauties and next to bent, small or reclining admiring men. Even the dominant black in this graphic is more in the style of Schulz than the rest of this author's works, preferring brightness and lightness. A very rare graphic, it has not been at Western auctions since 2000, nor has it been in gallery listings. Museums do not own it. Much of Breuer's legacy is in Poland because after his untimely death the legacy went to his family in Lviv and then Krakow.
