The model for this nude was Modigliani's great love Jeanne Hébuterne. She met Modigliani Académie Colarossi and became his inspiration. She was 19 at the time, Amedeo was fourteen years older than her. Modigliani painted about 25 of her portraits. Jeanne gave birth to a daughter, whom she named with the same name
Jeanne Modigliani (1918-1984). Modigliani's health was deteriorating - he suffered from tuberculosis. Amedeo died on January 24, 1920. Two days later Jeanne threw herself from the fifth floor and committed suicide while in the last month of her second pregnancy.
