He took drawing lessons in what is now Oslo, and the scholarship he received allowed him to go to Paris. Upon his return, he exhibited his works in the Norwegian capital. They aroused the interest of the painter Adelsteen Normann. who invited Munch to visit him, where his paintings caused a scandal at an exhibition in Berlin. He spent a good part of his life in Germany, France and Italy, before settling in Norway due to illness. He was a pioneer of printmaking, often using elements of color graphics.
